Artist Spotlight: Liliana Botero & The Wynwood Blank Canvas Project

Sep 25, 2015

The Wynwood Blank Canvas Project is not your typical, locally based gallery, and that's exactly how owner/local artist Liliana Botero intended it.

Hailing from Colombia, Liliana came to the United States and earned her bachelor's degree at the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale. Her undeniably unique style, which can best be described as a cross between "Op Art" and Surrealism, sets her apart from the contemporary artist community.

The idea to open her own gallery stemmed naturally from her artistic roots, as she is the niece of famous artist Fernando Botero. He is best known for his signature style coined "Boterismo", and has had exhibitions all around the world.

Liliana and her representative Peter have worked vigorously the past 3 years to make her visions a reality. Part of it being that her gallery not only serve as a haven for artists to display their work, but also as a canvas and paint supply boutique. " We want people to know we are here to help. It is our way of giving back to the community." explains Peter as he goes into depth about the importance of supporting local artists.

The plans for the Wynwood Blank Canvas do not stop there. A garden along the exterior of the gallery is currently in the works. Local artists will be encouraged to display their scultptures amongst beautifully landscaped greenery. "The concept is a lot like the Wynwood Walls, where people can come, walk around and take photos." says Liliana.

The future for Liliana looks bright and is growing rapidly. To learn about current exhibitions and future events, please visit:
