The Beatles ☀️Yellow SubmarineJul 17, 2018
Your favorite independent cinema is bringingyou more of the kind of movies you love.Celebrating its 50th anniversary, YELLOW SUBMARINE is a classic of psychedelic pop culture, a colorful musical spectacle and an exhilaratingly joyful cinematic experience for all ages, filled with visual invention, optical illusions, word play and of course, glorious Beatles music.A landmark in animation, with Heinz Edelmann’s inspired art direction conjuring up a non-stop parade of wildly different styles and techniques, YELLOW SUBMARINE remains a vivid and glorious classic ripe for rediscovery. On the occasion of its 50th Anniversary, the film has been hand-restored in digital 4K, frame by frame, and the film’s songs and score were remixed in 5.1 stereo surround sound at UMG’s Abbey Road Studios. The results are nothing short of stunning. Yellow Submarine has never looked or sounded this good!ALL TOGETHER NOW!Coinciding with the animated classic’s 50th anniversary, audiences of all ages can now “come together” and sing along to many of The Beatles most iconic tunes with subtitled lyrics right on the screen! And costumes are encouraged as we’ll be giving out prizes to the best & most original Pepperland costumes!THE YELLOW SUBMARINESING-A-LONG SCREENINGS:Once upon a time…or maybe twice… there was an unearthly paradise called Pepperland. 80,000 leagues under the sea it lay, a place where beauty, happiness, and music reign supreme. But this peaceful harmony is shattered when the Blue Meanies invade with their army of storm bloopers, apple bonkers, snapping turtle turks, and the menacing flying glove, in an attempt to stop the music and drain Pepperland of all color and hope. So it’s The Beatles to the rescue, as our animated heroes team up with Young Fred and the Nowhere Man and journey across seven seas to free Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, make peace with the Meanies, and restore music, color, and love to the world. From the paper-doll residents of Pepperland, to the tinted photography of the soot-covered roofs and smokestacks of Liverpool, the menagerie of fanciful characters in the Sea of Monsters, the kaleidoscopic color-splashed rotoscoping of “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” the vertigo-inducing op-art of the Sea of Holes, and the triumphant euphony of the “It’s All Too Much” finale, YELLOW SUBMARINE is quite simply a joy. Don’t miss your chance to experience it on the big screen – and to share it with the next generation of Beatles fans!PRESENTED ATO CINEMA MIAMI BEACHSHOWTIMESFri, July 20 @ 6:30pmSat, July 21 @ 6:30pm & 8:30pmSun, July 22 @ 2:30pm & 6:30pmMon, July 23 @ 6:30pmTues, July 24 @ 6:30pmWed, July 25 @ 6:30pmThurs, July 26 @ 6:30pm50 Years of the Byron Carlyle TheaterAlong with the 50th Anniversary of Yellow Submarine, we're celebrating another local anniversary. Fifty years ago this year, the Byron-Carlyle Theater opened its doors for the first time in a star-studded event featuring the likes of Jackie Gleason, Otto Preminger and Larry King.At one time the largest movie house in South Florida, the Byron-Carlyle was the place where generations of movie lovers have come to discover some of their favorite films. It remained a favorite for locals till it shuttered in 2000.In 2014, O Cinema brought the theater back to life making it a home for independent film in North Beach. We've been proud to present a stellar array of independent cinema and to bring organizations like Miami Film Festival and Sundance Institute to the community. Our proudest achievement however is to be part of this community.
